The wait is over. Mount Buller’s 2026 snow season officially commenced on 6 June, marking the beginning of another exciting winter in Victoria’s alpine region.
Our team was on the mountain from the very first weekend of the season, operating day trips from Melbourne and helping visitors experience the excitement of the snow. From families seeing snow for the first time to keen skiers eager to hit the slopes, the atmosphere across the resort was energetic despite the cool and misty alpine weather.
Guests Arriving at Mount Buller from Our Buses
One of the highlights of opening weekend was seeing visitors step off the coach and immediately begin enjoying the snow. For many guests, this was their first snow experience of the year, while others were returning to Mount Buller to kick off another ski season.
The resort was already showing strong visitor numbers, with buses, coaches and private vehicles arriving steadily throughout the day.
A Lively Start to Winter
The opening weekend demonstrated why Mount Buller remains Victoria’s most popular snow destination.
Visitors gathered throughout the village precinct, enjoying the alpine atmosphere, rental facilities, cafés and restaurants. The mountain may have been covered by low cloud and occasional mist, but this only added to the authentic winter experience.
As expected during the early season period, resort shuttle buses were busy moving guests between parking areas and the village. The transport network operated smoothly as thousands of visitors made their way around the mountain.
For many first-time visitors, simply arriving in the snow-covered village was a memorable experience.
Snow, Skiing and Mountain Activities
The slopes were already active during opening weekend, with beginner ski lessons underway and chairlifts carrying eager skiers and snowboarders up the mountain.
The village centre was buzzing with activity throughout the day. Guests gathered around the iconic fire pit, explored the retail and rental outlets, and enjoyed the unique atmosphere that only a snow resort can offer.
For those new to skiing, the beginner areas provided a perfect introduction to winter sports. More experienced visitors took advantage of the available terrain while waiting for further snowfalls later in the season.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, live entertainment was taking place in the village, creating a welcoming environment for visitors of all ages.
The opening weekend felt less like a typical day trip and more like a winter festival, with families building snowmen, children enjoying snow play and skiers making their first turns of the season.
Conditions on the Mountain
Although visibility varied throughout the day due to cloud and alpine mist, skiing and snow play activities continued across the resort.
The cooler conditions helped preserve the snow cover while creating the classic mountain scenery that many visitors hope to experience when travelling to Victoria’s high country.
The slopes remained busy throughout the day, with guests enjoying both skiing and snowboarding. Chairlifts were operating and beginner terrain was particularly popular with first-time snow visitors.
